What We Do

The J.K. Lowder Family Foundation was created in 1995 by Margaret and Jimmy Lowder with the intent of supporting and developing the idea of community and what it means to be a involved, conscientious citizen. Based in Montgomery, Alabama, the Foundation is recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Our Mission

The J.K. Lowder Family Foundation is dedicated to the idea of community. Through our support of youth and family, education, community development and vitalization, and the arts, the Foundation seeks to support those organizations that remind us of what it means to be a conscientious citizen.

Do You Qualify?

The Foundation accepts proposals by invitation only.

Our Funding Goals generally fall within the following categories:
    •    Arts & Culture
    •    Education
    •    Youth and Family Programs
    •    Community Development & Vitalization
    •    Social/Human Services

The first step in applying to the Foundation requires that all potential grantees fill out and submit our online Application Request Form. We review these forms on a continual basis, and they may be submitted at any time during the year. We try to acknowledge the receipt of all application requests. If you do not receive confirmation of receipt within four weeks of submitting your form, feel free to contact us.

All requests are first reviewed to determine if they fall within the Foundation's Funding Goals listed above. Those that do not are immediately declined. Requests that meet our goals are then reviewed to determine the following:
    •    the priority of the proposal within the Foundation's goals
    •    the potential results and impact of the proposal
    •    the availability of the Foundation's funds.

Please see our Grant Guidelines page for more information.
